Author's Note: I originally packed a lot of in-jokes into "The N-Files" for a bunch of friends who wanted to read it when I was done. However, some of them are so obscure that I don't think people will get them. Still, I figured that they were worth pointing out, and thus, an in-joke list was in order. :)

    In-Joke List

    • Kelly's nickname was inspired by an incident with my cousins and "squirrel fishing" as well as the mob of squirrels on my campus.

    • Rick Walker's younger brother TJ was named after a certain kids' TV show character played by Selwyn Ward, and the baseball obsession grew from there.

    • The line "The horror! The horror!" is from Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, one of the few seminar readings in my AP English class that I couldn't stand to finish.

    • Mulder's observation about a grinning dog being "a damned good dog or a biting one" is from Stephen King's The Stand.

    • The lime green Del Sol belongs to my friend Jen, who inspired the explanation that it can be found in any parking lot.

    • Rick: "Come on. He's my Dad. He's supposed to say that." Directly ripped off from Megabyte's line in the last part of "The Culex Experiment" serial of The Tomorrow People.

    • Rick's suggestion that Kelly and Romeo act like siblings is a jab at a scrapped Season 4 episode in which Romeo's sister Kelly was supposed to come to Videoland and drive him up the wall.

    • Kevin: "This must be a Tuesday. I could never get the hang of Tuesdays." Arthur Dent's comment about Thursdays in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy when he learns that the Earth is about to be destroyed.

    • Kelly: "I can translate salivating boy talk. He says you look great." One of my favorite lines from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in the episode "Inca Mummy Girl."

    • The Well-Manicured Man's mention about "Mallory's theories" is a nod to Sliders, of course. Most of that conversation was inspired by the X-Files movie.

    • Romeo and Simon's pancakes versus waffles argument was spawned from a running joke in the #Captain_N IRC chat room. Matt Slater and Mark Moore will probably never forgive me for this one. :)

    • Dakota Jones is from Christine Morgan's fanfics.
