You all have Kat to thank for this one, since I took this LONG hint from my post to her in the forums. This is the puzzle that had me putting this episode off forever.

Before you go back upstairs, check out that little recess in the wall next to Gregor and Prescott. You'll find an unusual cross. Take it and go upstairs.

See what happens when you drag it to one of the crosses that are on some of the pillars in the courtyard. (There are 3 in the first screen, and 2 in the second screen.)

You'll notice 2 things: that the thing you picked up moves each cross, and all 5 crosses in the courtyard have these same 5 symbols on them. They are, in effect, a big combination lock. If you turn each cross to the correct symbol and press the cross in the center, you will be able to create a bridge to the other side.

What's the combination, you ask? Well, there's a VERY familiar statue in the courtyard that should remind you of Chapter 6. It's going to be helpful again here. Write down the symbols in order from left to right and then activate those symbols on the five crosses from left to right - counterclockwise, if you will.

You can START at any cross you like, but from there you have to input the sequence. When you get one symbol correct, go to the next cross to its right. You'll know when you get the right symbol. If you screw up, you'll have to start over.

Lastly: Do NOT ask me how to turn the cross properly. It takes a lot of practice, patience, and a certain skill at nudging the base of the cross to turn in the right direction. It is a MAJOR pain in the ass to get it to go where you want, so be careful how you let it swing. Sometimes it's better to let it go all the way around if it won't go in the intended direction.

U.N. Owen offered this hint: "I think I may have figured out the trick to getting the crosses in Episode Seven to cooperate ... usually. The first part of the trick is to hold the cross at the small triangle at the bottom stem of the cross. The second part of the trick is to always move very slowly. The cross will sometimes still swing wildly, but hold your cursor still and don't move it at all until the cross has stopped swinging, then move your cursor slowly onto the triangle and then slowly rotate the cross into place. It's not a sure bet, but it works pretty well."
